Inspirational Shit.

Nobody tells this to people who are beginners, I wish someone told me. All of us who do creative work, we get into it because we have good taste. But there is a gap. For the first couple of years you make stuff, it's just not that good. It's trying to be good, it has potential, but it's not. But your taste, the thing that got you into the game, is still killer. And your taste is why your work disappoints you. A lot of people never get past this phase, they quit. Most people I know who do interesting, creative work went through years of this. We know our work doesn't have this special thing we want it to have. We all go through this. And if you are just starting out or you are still in this phase, you gotta know it's notmal and the most important thing you can do is do a lot of work. Put yourself on a deadline so that every week you will finish one story. It is only by going through a volume of work that you will close that gap, and your work will be as good as your ambitions. And I took longer to figure out how to do this than anyone I've ever met. It's gonna take a while. It's normal to take a while. You've just gotta fight your way through it. - Ira Glass

what's in a dream

one of my favorite concepts is that of lucid dreaming. my ability to alert myself that i am dreaming and consequently change the course of my dreams has strengthened over time and quite frequently, i am able to take control within my dreams. what continues to amaze me even more is the brain's capacity to create such detailed scenery. last night i dreamed i was in stockholm, sweden, followed by an adventure in a taxi through norway. the sensory images created were so realistic, and yet, i have never visited either place. i'd like to think i'm dreaming of my future, but if that's not the case, then i stand awed by the imagination. futher, emotions felt within dreams is something extraordinary. i literally stood awed at the coast of norway looking out onto the sea, admiring the reflections of my surroundings on the glass, crystal clear surface of water. that sentiment has continued throughout my morning and put me at peace. after rigorously studying various theories on dreaming, i maintain that there is no theory out there that can explain such a dream. anyways, i digress, enjoy these photos of norway...

Come Stand in the Water With Me

thanksforit, BlueLagoon

Simultaneously dreaming of Iceland and warmth this dreary Monday. Anxious to visit the Blue Lagoon, where the majestic waters of the geothermal spa form by lava invite bathers for recreational and medicinal enjoyment. 98-102 degrees of warmth and health bask in this steamy lagoon... yes, please.

We've Got No Money But We Got Heart...

thanksfor it, Earthship Biotecture

Made completely out of natural and recycled materials, these earth-friendly homes are constructed to work autonomously. With electricity from the sun and wind, water from rain and snow melt, sewage treated naturally on site, heating and cooling from the sun and earth, and food grown both inside and out, it's got everything you need with the added visual appeal of intriguing architecture. Kate visited over spring break and ever since I heard about this remarkable, hippie-tastic way of living, I have had a burning desire to see for myself. Any takers?

Speaking of houses...

A new song by Walk the Moon from their album I Want! I Want! has been on heavy rotation. Check out "Anna Sun".
